Secondary Storage

Secondary Storage

1. optical storage

   • CD's
   • DVD's
   • Blu-Ray
   • (Advantage)
     • Less cost effective than optical storage (more expensive) and more portable than magnetic storage
   • (Disadvantage)
     • not as durable as solid state, it can break easily when someone might drop it, it's easy to carry it around

2. magnetic storage

   • hard drive
   • (Disadvantage)
     • not durable as solid state in due to moving parts, therefore if it drops, it will break easier.
   • (Advantage)
     • Higher capacity than solid state therefore it will store more files and programs.

3. solid state

   • USB sticks
   • (Advantage)
     • It's more durable and can read/write faster than magnetic storage
   • (Disadvantage)
     • Less cost effective than magnetic storage, has limited read/write speed
