- Code editor
- Largest part of IDE
- Usually contain:Line numbering,auto-colour coding
- Good editors will have:auto-correct,auto-indentation and auto complete
- Run-Time environment
- A run-time environment allows the code to be run quickly
- Helps identify logic errors through showing each line run at a time.
- Error Diagnostics
- Fix and find errors
- Say error location and possible solutions
- Translator
- Can contain compiler and interpreter
- Breakpoints
- Stops program to let programmers see the certain information
- Code editor
Computing languages
- High level
- Made for humans
- One insruction HL= Multiple LL
- May work on multiple places
- Can easily store multiple pieces of data
- Easy to read, understand and modify
- Must be translated
- Made for humans
- Low level
- Made for processor
- One instruction per HL
- Made for one device
- Programmer must know internal structure
- Very difficult to read and understand.
- Made for processor
- High level
Compiler
- All source code at once
- Only needed once for exe file
- Can take long time to compile but quick to load
- List of errors
Interpreter
- Translates and runs 1 at a time
- Needed every time run
- Return first error then halt
- Run slow
