1.2 memory
RAM - programs currently in use. data currently in use.
RAM is volatile and ROM doesn't lose it's memory when the computer is turned off.
power on self-test (POST) is when the BIOS chip does a check to see if all components are present and functioning correctly. When the check is completed the CPU starts opening the operating system. If a test fails then an error message is shown.
The clock speed is the speed of a computer CPU, measured in hertz
ROM is secured because it cannot be modified easily.
The arithmetic logic unit(ALU) is a component of the CPU that performs arithmetic and logic calculations
Virtual memory is a section of a computer storage drive which is temporarily used as RAM
A register is the section of high speed memory within the CPU that stores data to be processed.
Storage and read only memory (ROM) use non-volatile memory to retain data - even when the computer has been switched off. In older computers, paper, punched tape and floppy disks have been used for non-volatile memory.
Memory is either volatile or non-volatile. Volatile memory only stores information to run programs while the computer is on. It is reset and emptied once the computer is turned off. Volatile memory requires electricity to store data using transistors and capacitors.
Memory is the area where the computer stores or remembers data. Memory provides the CPU with its instructions. There are different types of memory, and each one plays an important role in the running of a computer system. Memory is sometimes called primary memory.
the Memory Address Register (MAR) is the CPU register that either stores the memory address from which data will be fetched from the CPU, or the address to which data will be sent and stored. In other words, MAR holds the memory location of data that needs to be accessed.

CPU
DISK THRASHING- when a computer's virtual memory subsystem is in a constant state of paging
BIOS – Basic input/output system contains programs to load the hardware
FIRMWARE – Permanent software programmed into ROM
