- What will the software need to do?
  - Use interviews/questionaires or use existing documents - known specifications and needs
  - Draw diagrams to identify processes and data flow. Data dictionaires capture what each data item looks like.
  - End product is reaching specification and user requirements.
Design
- Input and output screens
- How data will be processed (using algorithms)
- How software will be tested
Implement
- Code + Test software
- Writing documentation for whoeevr needs to maintain software (e.g. user guide).
- Installing software for user
Evaluation
- Software tested against original specification (called acceptance testing)
- Uses CAP:
  - Corrective Maintenence - fix issues that appear
    - Adaptive Maintenence - changing the software to meet new specifications
      - Perfective Maintenence - chanign software to meet user requests (e.g. performance updates).
