The Orchestra- strings

1. violins

   • He violins are divided into 2 sections
     • The role of the 1st violins is to play the melody
       • The role of the 2nd violin is to play both melody and harmony

2. viola

   • He role of the viola is to play the harmony
   • A typical orchestra will have 10-14 viola players

3. cellos

   • The role of an cello is to play both harmony + melody
   • Usually 8-12 cello players

4. Double bass

   • The role of the double bass is to always play the harmony
   • Usually 6-8 double bass players

5. The pitch is changed by putting the left fingers on the strings on + off. the pegs at the top of the string instrument are used to tune it.

6. The sound is produced by putting the bow on the strings and moving it up or down or by plucking the strings
