Amygdala
1. system where emotional state will determine the admission of information into the brain
2. in negative emotion it become overactivated
  1. No new information will enter prefrontal cortex
  2. blockage of information
3. activity of amygdala can be controlled
  1. by turning things around us become calm and focused
    1. can send new information to prefrontal cortex
  2. by taking a deep breath or visualize a peaceful place
    1. can promote the use of prefrontal cortex
Reactive Brain
1. When get distracted by negative emotions
  1. brain will process information less or remember it slightly
    1. ignore it, fight against it as negative experience, avoid it
Prefrontal Cortex
1. a.k.a. thinking brain
2. sensory information will be process and reflect consciously
  1. not stress
    1. can control what information gets admitted into brain
    2. more valuable information will gets into the brain
    3. can control which information that we want to keep or not
Hippocampus
1. important role in memory processing
2. link new sensory input to both the past memories and existing knowledge stored in long-term memory to make new relational memory
3. can hold memories better
  1. if we review and practice something we've learned
    1. our dendrites can grow
    2. connections between nerve cells increase each time we review
    3. brains becomes more efficiently wired
Neurotransmitter
1. dopamine
  1. carry electrical messages from one neuron to another
  2. will be released when we feel happy
  3. certain foods help balance dopamine level
    1. fish
      1. contains omega 3 that linked to dopamine production
    2. eggs
      1. contains tyrosine
    3. bananas
      1. including the amino acid tyrosine, which boosts dopamine
