Aerobic Energy System
  1. Aerobic Glycolysis
    1. Glycogen from Carbohydrates
      1. By-products
        1. Fruit, bread, cereal, pasta, rice, nuts and vegetables
          1. Preferred fuel source
          2. 36 ATP produced per molecule
          3. Aerobic Lipolysis
            1. FFAs from fats
              1. By- products

                2. Butter, margarine, cheese, full cream dairy products, oils, nuts, fatty meats
                3. 441 ATP produced per molecule

                  Nota:

                  • One fatty acid molecule contains 147 ATP of energy and each triglyceride molecule contains three fatty acids.
                4. Amino acids from Protein
                  1. Lean meat, fish, poultry, legumes, eggs, lentils, grains, seeds, cheese, seafood
                    1. Only used under extreme circumstances

                      Nota:

                      • such as starvation, extended illness or depletion of CHO's and FFA's
                    2. Dominant energy system at rest and sub maximal intensity
                      1. Provides 30-50 times as much ATP as the ATP-PC and anaerobic systems combined
                        1. Peak power 1-1.5 minutes
                          1. Fatigue

                                      Nota:

                                      • Hypertonic to replace glycogen Hypotonic to replace lost fluids
                                    2. Active recovery
                                      1. Massage
