User Interfaces

1. GUI (Graphical User Interface)

   • Advantages
     • Simpler for everyday users as it doesn't require them to memorise specific commands
     • Easier to find way around the system due to the use of WIMP
   • Disadvantages
     • Need more memory (RAM) to run other interfaces
     • Can be slower for experienced users as CLI is faster if the user remembers the commands
   • Uses WIMP (Windows, Icons, Menu, Pointer) to allow everyday users to interact with the system more easily

2. CLI (Command Line Interface)

   • Advantages
     • Faster for experienced users as they remember the commands
     • Needs less memory (RAM) than GUI due to the lack of graphics
   • Disadvantages
     • Unsuitable for beginners as commands have to be inputted specifically
     • There are many commands which have to be memorised
   • Text based - requires specific commands in order to allow the user to interact with the system
