Secondary Storage

1. There is a key difference between memory and storage. Programs are kept on a storage device and copied into the computer's memory before they are executed. Storage is also called secondary storage.

2. Secondary storage is a non-volitile storage not under controll of the cpu

3. Secondary storage is also very commenly used as a backup for the primary storage incase something happens to it

4. the different types of secondary storage are

   • floppy disk
     • floppy disk is very out of date and not used commenly anymore, however it revolutionised storage today as we know it to be a practical external storage device.
   • hard disk
     • hard disk is and external hard drive that is most commenly know for being high storage but still practical in the way that you can put in you bag or even in your pocket.
   • optical disk
     • optical disk is a disk on which you can store allot of stuff on, the resone for people using this is because it is one of if not then the thinest and lightest storage devices.
   • magnetic tape
     • magnetic tape was an upgrade to the floppy disk, so there for it is old and our replacement for it was the optical disk, but at its time it was an upgrade to the floppy disk with more space for you to store stuff
   • solid state devices
     • solid state devices are still used today, however they can be massive and run complet systems on it, such as a hole school, therefor it isent very practical and most of the time is not moved.
