Periodic Table
Atoms are the building blocks of matter
- They are made up of protons neutrons, and electrons.
- Protons are positively charged, located in the nucleus, and attracted to electrons in the electron cloud.
- Metalloids have properties of metals and non-metals
- Electrons have a negative charge, are outside the nucleus in the electron cloud, and are attracted to the protons in the nucleus
- Neutrons have no charge at all and are located in the nucleus.
Atomic Number- The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom; there are the same amount of electrons as protons
- Atomic Mass- The average mass of the atoms in an element; tells the number of protons + nuetrons
- Element name- Usually from a Greek or Latin word for the element or a substance containing the element
- Symbol-Short-hand abbreviation for the element name
