1. Comprehension

   • Semantic STM deficit was related to deficits in comprehending certain sentence types
     • Task such as indicating whether sentences were sensible anomalous
       • Patients had difficulty making judgments in sentences in which several adjectives came before the noun or several nouns that came before the verb

2. Production

   • Semantic STM capacity is critical for advance planning in production
     • Patients with semantic STM deficits have difficulty producing adjective-noun phrases Ex: "long blonde hair"
       • Patients with semantic STM deficits also show difficulty producing sentences that began with a conjoined noun phrase Ex: the toy and the doll moved

3. Learning

   • Phonological STM has consequences relating to learning of novel phonological forms such as learning new words or names
     • Patients with phonological STM showed deficits in learning foreign translations of english words and learning the meanings for known words
       • Semantic STM deficits in learning showed reverse patterns indicating that semantic STM was needed to transfer semantic information to LTM
