Working Memory

1. Memory is the process in which information is encoded, stored, and retrieved

2. Components of memory

   • Sensory memory
   • Working memory
     • WM enables us to store information in our minds for short periods of time and use it in our current thinking
     • Also called
       • short-term memory
         • The information stored only persist for only about 18 to 30 seconds
   • Long-term memory
     • The information can be stored for long periods of time
       • Not limited capacity
       • Stores information indefinitely
