1. Boreholes

   • A narrow hole in the ground that is used to locate resources such as oil and water.
   • It can become very expensive, the further you drill down.

2. Geochemical Analysis

   • A way of sampling water and analyzing it.
   • It is a cheap way of analyzing resources.

3. Magnetic Anomalies

   • An image of the earth is taken. It shows the places where magnetism is unusually high in bright red.
   • It allows you to find variations in magnetism or chemistry in rocks.

4. Seismic Survey

   • A boat travels along a stretch of water. It sends out seismic waves periodically. These waves hit the rocks on the ocean bed then reflect back up to the surface. Receivers generate a map of the rock structure.
