1. Translators

   • Compiler
     • Translates whole of source at once
     • Only reports errors at the end of translation
     • Object code is saved and run on its own
     • Compiled programs
       • Runs fast
       • Can save object code
       • Compiler not required in order to run the code
   • Interpritor
     • Translates one line at a time
     • Reports errors as you go
     • Each line is run as it's translated
     • Interpreted programs
       • Runs slowly
       • Cannot save translated version
       • Interpreter required to run the code
   • Source code into object code

2. The parts of a processor

   • Control Unit
   • Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)
     • Carries out the calculations and makes the decisions
       • E.g. when a computer decides if a number is larger/smaller/the same as another
   • Registers
     • Storage locations
   • Buses
     • Address Bus
     • Data Bus
     • Control Bus
