Clustering

1. is to group similar (homogeneous) objects into the same cluster and dissimilar (heterogeneous) objects into different clusters on the basis of distances among these objects.

2. Clustering is an exploratory technique that attempts to discover natural groupings in data.

     • Because they form the basis for clustering the points.
     • common to use between five to fifteen variables as clustering criteria.
