How much?
Masses of particles
- Protons have a relative mass of 1, and so neutrons, electrions are too small to mesasure.
- Top number is the mass number, and bottom number is the atomic number
- We can use this to work out how much protons, neutron and elections elements have.
- no of protons equal the bottom number.
- So numbe of neutrons is mass no - atomic no
- We can use this to work out how much protons, neutron and elections elements have.
Isotopes
- Atoms of the same elementi always have the same number of protons, however they can have diferent numbers of eletrons.
- For example, two isotopes are Carbon 12 and carbon 14 - Carbon 12 haves 6 protons and 6 neutrons while carbon 14 has 6 protons and 8 neutrons.
- For example, two isotopes are Carbon 12 and carbon 14 - Carbon 12 haves 6 protons and 6 neutrons while carbon 14 has 6 protons and 8 neutrons.
- Isotopes have diffrent propties, some elements might be radioative but some isotopes might become very stable.
- Dispite this elements will always have the same chemical propites.
- Atoms of the same elementi always have the same number of protons, however they can have diferent numbers of eletrons.
RAM = How much stuff inside of a atom, EG the RAM of carbon 12 is 12, becuase 6 protons 6 neutrons
- RFM = We can use the RAM to prodict the RFM which is used for compounds
- EG: NA (23) + CL (35.5) = 58.5 (NaCL)
- RFM = We can use the RAM to prodict the RFM which is used for compounds
Percentage yield = Ammount of product produced / Max possible
