1. Smartphone performs many functions of computers, touchscreen interface, Internet access, and operating system capable of running downloaded app

   • send and receive emails, take photographs and videos, record sound, acts as GPS system and runs apps to provide entertainment library
   • unlocked phone can give someone access to personal information. Fragile . Errors occur creating additional costs to get fixed

2. Quantum Computing experimental work with quantum bits (Qu-bits) represent atomic particles e.g. electrons or photons which can be several different states

   • carry out data manipulation million times qucker than current computers, small fast, powerful
   • Expensive. Still experimental only used by companies such as NASA

3. Embedded System computer system with a dedicated fuction within a large mechanical or electrical system e.g. car computers monitor emissions and adjust settings accordingly

   • small, cheap, global network of connected device GPS location
   • works for one application only. Processing capabilities are slow. Adding additional software not easy. Troubleshooting is impossible

4. Tablet/Hybrid device small hand held enables user to surf innternet without going on computer

   • screen size is small loss or theft is easier requires charge every so often. Can't do everything computer does
   • used in variety of locations (portable) contains components of all-in one PC, laptops fold back to create space and can be placed in a bad

5. Mainframe huge machines solve scientific and engineering problems which require complex calculations or manipulations, gathers and stores large amounts of data e.g. bank, airline. Uses traditional technology CPUs and storage which uses "1" or "0" to carry out instructions or manipulated data

   • reliable and secure has fast backup meaning if one component fails, others take its place without stopping the processing of input/ output activities
   • expensive requires a team of experts to oversee. Complicated to set up. Occupies a lot of space

6. Desktop/ Server- a computer system that acts an access point for individuals to connect to e.g. dedicate files and databases

   • they are all-in one PCs which reduce the amound of space requires to house the commputer. Less cables required therefore can be easily moved. Can be used for personal and business use.
   • costly to upgrade and repaired to an extent. requires constant maintenance, takes up space. Requires internet connection and more then one power socket
