Chapter 11
1. New Home
  1. Its the 1980's and Amir and Baba are now living in Fremont California, USA
  2. Amir gets a new car as result of passing his graduation
  3. San Jose flea market small section of Afghan market
2. Older Baba
  1. Baba liked the idea of America as it represents strength, but finds it hard to adapt to his new surroundings
  2. Baba loses his temper at a shop keeper who asks for an ID
  3. Baba has found a job, and hands back food-stamps on the same day as he rejects charity to maintain self-respect
3. Older Amir
  1. He sees America as an opportunity to escape his past.
  2. Graduates from high school at the age of twenty. Goes to a bar to celebrate, Baba gets drunk
  3. Amir stands his ground in refusing to get a 'proper job' rather than studying English and creative writing at college
  4. Falls in love with Soraya, General Taheri's daughter
Chapter 12
1. Soraya and Amir
  1. Amir decides to approach Soraya, they talk and Soraya's mother appears and is pleased to see Amir
  2. Soraya tells Amir that when she lived in Virginia, she ran away with an Afghan man and lived with him for a month.
  3. Soraya's secret reminds Amir of his secret, and wishes he was as brave as her
2. Baba
  1. Diagnosed with lung cancer but doesn't want anyone else to know, however he is rushed to hospital when he collapses in the market
  2. Once Baba is discharged from hospital, Amir asks Baba if he would approach the General about Soraya's hand in marriage
  3. Baba tells Amir the proposal has been successful, but Soraya wishes to speak with Amir first
3. The General
  1. Reminds Amir that the people of the market are always reporting back to him whilst he is not there
Chapter 13
1. Baba's Death
2. Soraya's and Amir's Future
3. Marriage
  1. Amir and his father go to the Taheri
