1. RAM and ROM

   • RAM
     • Volatile memory
       • When a device is turned off all data is lost
         • Requires a flow of electricity to retain data
       • Data is not retrievable
         • AKA main memory
     • Removable chips and can be updated
       • This is a RAM chip
     • Can hold data and programs
       • Usually a few gigabytes of RAM
   • ROM
     • You cannot write, only read
       • Only a few GB's of this
     • Non volatile
       • Data is retrievable
         • Holds basic computer settings
         • start up information
     • Chips located on a motherboard
       • This is a ROM chip
         • Non removable and cannot be updated
