5.5 Digital security

  1. Antivirus or anti-virus software, sometimes known as anti-malware software, is computer software used to prevent, detect and remove malicious software. Antivirus software was originally developed to detect and remove computer viruses.

  2. Username and password: Provide protection at two levels. The username is linked to a group or groups The password can allow the user access to the information system and software such as internet access word processor spreadsheet and email

  3. Fire walls:A firewall is a network security system, either hardware- or software-based, that uses rules to control incoming and outgoing network traffic. A firewall acts as a barrier between a trusted network and and an untrusted network. A firewall controls access to the resources of a network through a positive control model. This means that the only traffic allowed onto the network is defined in the firewall policy; all other traffic is denied.

  4. Permission Roles that determine who can access an object and what they can do with it an example would be the permission granted to people to access a shared file on a network system

  5. Encryption is when data is encoded,so that it cannot be understood by people who are not authorised to see it. The only way is that someone can read encrypted data is with a secret code
