- Each device has its own cable which connects to the hub / switch
- Most popular way to set up a LAN
- Very reliable
- If one cable / device stops working, others will not be effected
- No data collisions
- Expensive
- Not as expensive as MESH
- If a hub / switch fails, all devices connected to it will also stop working
MESH
- All devices are connected together
- There is no central switch / hub
- If one cable / device fails others will not be effected
- Expensive
- Lots of cables needed to connect all the devices together
- Can handle high levels of data traffic
- If some cables are missing it becomes a partial MESH
