1. Objective: Learn PL (when to use certain PL) and Paradigms

   • Paradigms: way to classify PLs/ way to program; there are several paradigms
     • Imperative, object-oriented, functional, reactive/event-driven, logic
       • Imperative Programming:

       • Event-Driven Programming:
       • Logic Programming:

2. Compiler and Interpreter:

   • Compiler: computer program that translates a program written in a high-level language to the machine language of a computer
     • Process: source code -> lexical analyzer -> syntactic analyzer -> semantic analyzer (type checker) -> code optimizer -> code generator -> machine code
   • Interpreter: computer program that simulates a computer that understands a high-level language
     • Process: source code -> lexical analyzer -> syntactic analyzer -> semantic analyzer -> interpreter
   • Compiler Pros and Cons: scan entire program and translate into machine code , it can take time to analyze source code (reusable and safe)
     • Compiler is used when code is needed to be used more than once
   • Interpreter Pros and Cons: translate one statement at a time, it takes less time to scan and translate code but the program runs slower because it translates then executes one statement at a time
     • Interpreter is used when code is only needed once and for flexibility

   • Functions in memory stack: activation record of function is pushed onto the run-time stack, then it is popped out of run-time stack when function returns
