1. About Him?

   • He was a French Biologist
   • He worked before Darwin
   • Born in 1744
   • Fought in the Pomeranian war
   • After war he became interested in natural history

2. Ideas

   • He had 2 ideas
     • A characteristic which is used more and more by an organism becomes bigger and stronger, and one that is not used eventually disappears
     • Any feature of an organism that is improved through use is passed to its offspring.

3. Influences

   • The ideas put forward by Lamarck are not accepted today
   • It cannot be accepted because it does not take into consideration the inheritance by genes
   • However Darwin's theory can account for the continued presence of simple organisms.
