Leopold's Maneuvers

1. 1. Fetal Lie

   • Transverse or Oblique
     • Head and butt at the sides of the fundus
   • Longitudinal
     • Head and butt in line with the mother's spine
   • Feel top of fundus with both open palms, fingers toward mother's head

2. 3. Presentation

   • Denominator
     • Occiput
       • Longitudinal lie, cephalic presentation
     • Sacrum
       • Longitudinal lie, breech presentation
     • Acromion Process
       • Transverse lie, shoulder presentation
   • C-shaped hand just above pubic bone
     • Head=cephalic
     • Butt=breech
     • Transverse=shoulder

3. 4. Fetal Position

   • Open palms, fingers pointed down toward mother's pubic bone and on either side of the fundus, feel for the position of the baby
   • Posterior
     • Occiput and back closest to mother's sacrum
   • Anterior
     • Occiput and back closest to mother's pubic bone
   • Transverse
     • Presenting part to either side

4. 2. Find back and small parts

   • Feel sides of fundus with open palms, fingers facing up toward mother's head
