1. Clefs

   • at begining
   • where to pitch notes
   • Treble Clef
     • higher sounding notes; G clef; EGBDF; FACE; Flute; Violin; trumpet.
   • Bass Clef
     • Lower sounding notes; F clef; GBDFA; All Cows Eat Grass; bassoon, tuba, cello
   • Alto Clef
     • centered around middle; tells where middle C is; C clef; alto voice and violin
   • Tenor Clef
     • centered on 4th line of stave; tells where middle C is; C clef; cello; bassoon; trumpet; helps avoid leger lines

2. Tied notes

   • Increase value of note. Only occur between notes on same line or space. When notes are tied, you add together the total value of the notes.
     • If notes are joined by a line but aren't on the same line or space then the line becomes a slur or phase mark- (tells you where to breathe or emphasise notes)

3. Notes and rests

   • Semibreve
     • 4 beats
     • minim
       • 2 beats
       • Crotchet
         • 1 beat
         • Quaver
           • 1/2 beat
           • Semi- quaver
             • 1/4 beat
