- Winston returns home from work at the Ministry of Truth, to his flat in Victory Mansions. This is ironic as it is far from a mansion
- He passes a poster that says "Big Brother is watching you" illustrating the control the party has over the citzens. This is also shown via the complusary telescreen in his flat
- The telescreen is not only to spread propaganda of the party but is used by the Thought Police to moniters the citizens behaviour.
- Britain is known as 'Airstrip one' and is the province of a superstate called 'Oceania'
- It is at war with Eurasia and is allied with Eastasia. However, this has been the other way around in the past but it's never admitted.
