How to separate salt from sand.
- To separate a mixture of salt and sand we have to have a method.
- Salt Is a soluble which means that it can dissolve in water whereas you cannot dissolve sand in water therefore sand is insoluble.
- in a beaker add the salt and sand together and mix it. It has become a mixture. Add water to dissolve the salt. Remember the salt is still there but its just in tiny small pieces so you cant see them.
- You may find the sand has sunk to the bottom and the water is quite cloudy this is because of the sand as it is an insoluble.
- Once you add the water you can place filter paper into a beaker and slowly pour the solution into the filter paper.
- You will notice there is water going into the beaker. That is the salt solution. There will also be wet sand in the filter. This is the residue.
- Once you have filtered all of the solution, you should be left with clear water which is the salt water. Pour this into a evaporation basin. Leave the basin on a window sill for 5-6 days to evaporate the water.
- You will be left with salt crystals that may be watery. If you left them in the sun longer they will become completely dry.
-
- Get a piece of forging paper and copy the check onto the paper. Use to pens like a biro and an ink pen.
