To fully understand decimals, you must first study the idea of place value

Place value tells you how much each number is worth.

Look at the drawing: when you use a decimal point, the ones, tens, and hundreds places all fall to the left of the decimal point. They are all whole numbers 1, 10 and 100. So starting at the decimal point and moving left, the values grow larger--ones, then tens, then hundreds, then thousands, etc.

The decimal point stands for “and,” so the numbers after the decimal point are read using the worth label of the number furthest to the right, e.g. 2.3 is said ‘two and three tenths.’ The number 7.36 is said ‘seven and thirty-six hundredths.

China's Homework

The homework includes four differing place value worksheets that will assess China’s knowledge of place value when decimal numbers are concerned.

The worksheets vary in difficulty and will test China’s knowledge using a number of different methods. The worksheets are all sorting questions where China has to sort the numbers according to their decimal place values, whether by using the table, Venn diagram or by circling the numbers individually.

Mum, please watch China as she completes these tasks, as the answers are among the worksheets. Please study them before she completes them. Also, please do not worry if China is unsure of anything. You can send me a question/message via text, email or via GoConqr.
