- Equivalent ratios are different numbers representing the same part of a whole. They have different numerators and denominators, but their fractional values are the same.

- 6th Grade- Solving Ratio Problems with Tables, Double Number Lines, and Tape Diagrams (Enclavar)
- Double Number Lines are 2 parallel number lines.
- - One line is for each quantity in the ratio and a scale on each line (tick marks) so equivalent ratios lining up vertically
- - A good choice when it helps to visualize how far apart numbers are from each other. They are harder to use with very big or very small numbers.
- Ratio tables are tables that organize info into horizontal rows and vertical columns. The first row/column usually tells what the numbers represent
- - Tables work well in almost all situations.
-
- Tape Diagrams are groups of rectangles put together to represent a relationship between quantities
- shows us part of a whole/fraction of a whole
- Most likely to be helpful when the parts of the ratio have the same kind of units and the sum of the quantities is meaningful in the context
- Tape diagrams allow students like me to approach more complex problems that involve comparing ratios of 3 items. This would be more difficult to solve without the use of a tape diagram, but with a tape diagram the structure of the problems can be visualized and, sometimes, the solutions are readily available.
