important themes, patterns and quotes relating to macbeth:

Act 1- the first thing the audience see or hear is thunder and lightning, this immediately foreshadows conflict and sets a negative and fightening tone in the play.

-audience then meet the three witches or "wierd sisters"- who were reffered to as the godesses who could predict the future in greek mythology

- the witches also introduce the theme of the supernatural and evil

-important quote- "fair is foul and foul is fair", this displays that turmoil and unnatural eventes have already started to occur in this so natural world. this is an oxymoron

-the theme of evil and deception consistently occurs throughout the play, this quote is our first indication that things are not always as they appear

-for example, macbeth appears to be a reliable and good friend to the king and the other thanes, but when tested by his own ambition and power he becomes selfish and villainous, murdering multiple people during his surge of power.

-macbeth is then spoke very highly of to duncan after killing macdonald (a traitor) in battle, duncan repsonds by calling macbeth "O valiant cousin worthy gentleman"

-ross another thane then arrives and tells duncan how macbeth has also killed the than of cawdor (another traitor) he then rewards macbeth with "with his former title greet macbeth"; "what hath he lost, noble macbeth hath won"
