China's One Child Policy
1970s Chinese govt realised that population was too big and that soon the country would be having overpopulation problems.
In 1979 they introduced the one child policy this meant:
each couple cant marry until there early 20s
must only have one successful pregnancy
must be sterilized or abort any other pregnancy's

would have priority in housing, pensions, and family benefits including free education for child.
Disobeying would mean:
10% salary cut
huge fine- would bankrupt most households
family would have to pay for education and health care of whole family
2nd child born abroad never aloud to be a Chinese citizen
Success of failure?...
govt say it was a great success

"Little Emperor" children became spoiled with 2 parents and 4 grand parents
Ageing population: China will have a large % of elderly people over the next 20 years.
