• A short story of a particular event that is interesting/amusing
• eg. My grandfather used to tell me stories of when he was younger and war was going on in our country. He would tell us how he and his family scavenged for leftovers and drank water from the drains. He would tell us that we were very lucky to be born in a time where everything is peaceful and things are done step by step for us.

Quotes

• Sentences/sayings cited from famous people/books or a popular saying
• eg.
• If I'd observed all the rules, I wouldn't be where I am right now- Marilyn Monroe
• Hope is being able to see the light despite all the darkness- Desmond tutu

Rhetorical Question

• A question asked to make the audience feel/relate to the topic you are going to talk about or to make them assume somthing
• eg. What if i was to tell you that tommorrow, all our internet went down? You wouldn't be able to go to your favourite social media websites, have instant results on a topic that you are researching and have to take several days at the library. How would you feel about that?

Shocking Statistics

• Shocking numerical facts/data from a survey or an experiment
• eg. In singapore, the Resident Total Fertility Rate (TFR) fell from the peak of 1.96 births per female in 1988 to 1.24 births per female in 2015.
• In usa, Approximately 7.6 million companionanimals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats.

Analogy

• A sentence used to draw similarities between two objects. Metaphor, Similies and other literary devices could be used to emphasise the point.
• eg.
• Success is like a sport. You will never attain what you have until you work very hard for it.
• Public Image is like your virginity. Once you ruin it, you can never have it back.
