2Continuous Variation is [blank_start]quantitative[blank_end] - it can be measured. It is variation that is not split into a few little [blank_start]subcategories[blank_end] but can seem to be continuous. Discontinuous variation is largely due to [blank_start]genes[blank_end], more than continuous variation is.
The risk of [blank_start]mutation[blank_end] is greatly increased by exposure to [blank_start]mutagenic[blank_end] agents. They cause a [blank_start]base[blank_end] to be removed and replaced by another [blank_start]base[blank_end], altering the genetic [blank_start]code[blank_end] of the organism.
Mutagenic agents can come in a variety of forms: [blank_start]Nuclear[blank_end] or Ionising radiation, X-Rays and [blank_start]Ultra-Violet[blank_end] light, Certain chemicals called [blank_start]mutagens[blank_end], some of which can cause cancer and so are called [blank_start]carcinogens[blank_end]. A common source of mutagens and carcinogens is [blank_start]cigarette[blank_end] smoke.- Aquantitative

3Religious theories are based on the need for a 'creator' for all life to exist on Earth, but there are other much more substantiated theories. Charles Darwin put forward his theory of evolution about [blank_start]140[blank_end] years ago. When Darwin visited the [blank_start]Galapagos[blank_end] Islands, he made a number of observations that led to the development of his theory. These were: Organisms produce more [blank_start]offspring[blank_end] than can possibly survive, Population numbers remain fairly [blank_start]constant[blank_end] despite this, All organisms in a [blank_start]species[blank_end] show variation, and some of these [blank_start]variations[blank_end] are inherited.
He also concluded from these observations that since there were more offspring produced than could [blank_start]survive[blank_end], there must be a struggle for [blank_start]existence[blank_end]. This is called the survival of the [blank_start]fittest[blank_end] or natural [blank_start]selection[blank_end].- A140

4Mutations that occur in [blank_start]genes[blank_end] are usually [blank_start]harmful[blank_end], but in the some cases it can be useful when the environment [blank_start]changes[blank_end]. Over a long period of time, gradual changes ([blank_start]mutations[blank_end]) may result in totally new [blank_start]species[blank_end] being formed. This brings us back to the theory of evolution, that all species evolved from a common [blank_start]ancestor[blank_end] that existed billions of years ago, and that those species that were unable to adapt to their [blank_start]surroundings[blank_end] became extinct.

5Fossils are the remains of dead [blank_start]organisms[blank_end] that lived [blank_start]millions[blank_end] of years ago and are found in rocks. Most dead organisms [blank_start]decay[blank_end] and disintegrate, but the following are ways that fossils can be formed: The hard parts of animals that don't [blank_start]decay[blank_end] form into a rock, Minerals which preserve their [blank_start]shape[blank_end] gradually replace the softer parts of animals that decay very [blank_start]slowly[blank_end]. Fossils are formed in areas where one or more of the [blank_start]conditions[blank_end] needed for decay are absent; for example, areas where there is no [blank_start]oxygen[blank_end], moisture or [blank_start]warmth[blank_end].
