  1. 1SequenceThe order in which a set of instructions is carried out in an algorithm.
  2. 2SelectionA way of creating multiple paths and decisions in an algorithm.
  3. 3IterationA way of repeating a set of instructions in an algorithm.
There are two types of iteration:
    for-to-next counting loops
    while-endwhile condition loops
  4. 4ConditionA feature in an algorithm that can be met, or not met, causing a different action to be taken.
  5. 5LoopA sequence of instructions that is continually repeated a set number of times, or until a condition is met.
  6. 6VariableA named storage location that contains a value that can change during the execution of a program.
  7. 7IntegerWhole numbers only
    .e.g. 0, 1 ,2, 3
  8. 8Real/FloatNumbers that can have decimal parts as well .e.g. 0.1, 1.2, 3.4
  9. 9BooleanTwo values only, true and false
    .e.g. True/False, Y/N
  10. 10CharacterA single letter, number or symbol
    .e.g. A, B, C
  11. 11StringA single letter, number or symbol
    .e.g. A, B, C
  12. 12ConstantA named storage location that contains a value that cannot be changed during the execution of a program.
  13. 13ArrayA set of data that is stored together, that is of the same data type.
  14. 14AssignmentThis is setting or resetting a value to a data location, such as a variable.
  15. 15Local variableA variable that is declared within a function or procedure and therefore can only be used within that function or procedure.
  16. 16Global variableA variable that is visible throughout the whole of the program.
  17. 17ProcedureA named section of instructions that preform a specific task.
  18. 18Dynamic arrayAn array that does not have a fixed length applied to it when its declared.
  19. 19Static arrayAn array that has a fixed length applied to it when its declared.
  20. 20ConcatenationThe joining together or characters in a spring.
  21. 21Sub-programs-----
  22. 22FunctionA named section of instructions that preform a specific task and return a value from this.
  23. 23Syntax errorAn error in the language written in a program.
  24. 24Logical errorAn error in a program that causes it to produce unexpected results.
  25. 25TranslatorSoftware that translates a program written in a programming language into machine code that can be understood by a computer.
  26. 26DatabaseA structured way of storing data.
  27. 27Input sanitationTechnique of modifying input to ensure it is valid.
  28. 28ValidationTechniques to check if the input meets a set of criteria.
  29. 29Common validation rulesLength check - checks the data contains a
    set number of characters.
Range check - Checks the data entered is within a certain number range
Type check - Checks the data entered is a certain data type.
Format check - Checks the data entered has a particular format .e.g. has a symbol.
  30. 30AuthenticationTechniques used to confirm a users' identify.
  31. 31Types of testingNormal test data - refers to data that the program should process normally (data that it should accept).
Erroneous test data - refers to data that the program shouldn't accept (data that it should reject).
Extreme test data - refers to data that will fall on the edge, or boundary, of any ranges or limits that have been set.
  32. 32High-level languageA computer language, in which programs are written, that is closer to human language.
  33. 33Low-level languageA computer language, in which programs are written, that is closer to what a computer understands.
  34. 34TranslatorsThere are 3 types of translator that can be used;
    a compiler
    an interpreter
    an assembler
  35. 35CompilerSoftware that translates a high-level language into machine code.
  36. 36InterpreterSoftware that translates a high-level language by analysing and executing it line by line.
  37. 37AssemblerSoftware that translates assembly code into machine code.
  38. 38IDE--------
  39. 39Describe what is meant by the term 'selection'. [2]Selection is used to change the path or flow of data in a program. There are two types of selection:
    if-then-else statements
    switch-case statements
  40. 40Explain two ways in which a origrammer can make sure that a prograamme
