- 1Correlations- aims to investigate whether two variables are related and how strongly they correlate
- positive correlation: as one variable increases, the other variable also increases
- negative correlation: as one variable increases, the other variable decreases - 2Correlations: Strengths- a correlation study can be conducted on variables that can be measured but not manipulated (when experiments would be impractical)
- a correlation can demonstrate the presence or absence of a relationship so is useful for indicating areas for subsequent experimental research - 3Correlation: Weaknesses- a single correlation cannot indicate a causal relationship and any relationship may be due to other factors
