- 4What's the difference between the two?CLI requires the user to type commands, whilst GUI uses icons to represent the functions.
- 5What are the 5 types of software?Memory Management, Security, Multitasking, Peripheral Management & Utility.
- 6What does Defragmentation do?Rearranges bits of files so they're closer together, so the computer can access them faster.
- 7What is Virtual Memory?Temporary memory created in secondary storage when the RAM is full.
- 8How does a computer multitask?The CPU quickly swaps between processing bits of different programs.
- 9What are privileges?Rights assigned to users that decide whether a user can read or edit files or run programs.
- 10Examples of utility software.Antivirus, Spyware protection, Firewall, Disk formatter, File transfer, Defragmentation, System maintenance, System info, System diagnosis, System cleanup, Auto-updater.
- 11What is the difference between Custom Written (Bespoke) & Off-the-shelf software?Bespoke software is written specifically for the client's needs, whilst Off-the-shelf software has a set of general uses.
- 12What is the difference between Open Source software & Proprietary software?Open-source software is unlicensed and can be used by anyone (usually for free), whilst Proprietary software needs a license.
