WHAT IS THE OPERA? An opera is like a play in which the characters only sing. They don't speak.
What was the first opera ever written? Jacopo Peri's Euridice of 1600 is considered to be the first surviving opera.
WHO IS WHO IN OPERA? It is necesary a lot of people to make an Opera.
MUSIC DIRECTOR This is the person who is in charge of bringing the entire opera production together.
STAGE DIRECTOR This is the person who directs the people who are responsible for the costumes, set decorations and lighting.
COMPOSER This is the person who writes the music.
LIBRETIST This is the person who writes the story or the libretto.
THE ORCHESTRA These are the musicians who play the music that was written by the composer.
THE VOICES All operas have solo singers and a lot of operas have a choir.
FEMALE VOICES (WOMEN) Soprano: it the highest singing voice of women. Contralto: is the lowest female voice.
MALE VOICES (MEN) Tenor: it is the highest male singing voice. Bass: it is the lowest male singing voice.
CHOIR A choir: it is a group of people who sing together.
BALLET This is the group of ballerinas who dance during some parts of the opera.
