How linked an adult attachemnt style to stalking? Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991)
What did Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991) suggest? That the adult attachment style 'pre occupied' causes indiviudal to have a low self image but positive other image, meaning they seek approval and personal validation from others as they see them in a positive way
what did meloy suggest that about people with a pre occupied attachment style? they may engage in celebrity stalking because they overvalue others and perceive that contact with celebrities will indicate that they are acceptable and valued, thus challenging the negative views of their self.
what did mullen find? That 80% of stalking of the royal family was done by people with psychotic disorders and were very different from non celeb stalkers, suggesting that it is a seperate phenomenom
What is a real life application of stalking? With its increased popularity it has highlighted the problem and anti stalking laws have been put in place in the UK and US
what is the issue of measuring stalking behaviours? Fans are encouraged to be adoring, it is difficult to asses when fan behaviour actually turns into stalking
What did Tonin find? That stalkers had more evidence of insecure adult attachemnt styles than the control group (reterospective self report measures)
what did Roberts research show and suggest? Supports the assoication that pre occupied attachemnt can lead to stalking. Clinical interventions can be designed with this in mind. The police can draw a psychological profile of unknown offenders
