ROSTRAL Nearest to the nose
DORSAL The back surface
CRANIAL/ANTERIOR The front end (head)
CAUDAL/POSTERIOR The back end (posterior)
ANTERODORSAL The back surface of the head end ( anterior=the head end & dorsal=the back surface)
VENTRAL The abdomen surface (belly)
PROXIMAL Nearest to the body
MEDIAL Towards the midline
DISTAL Furtherest from the body
PALMER The rear surface of the forepaw that bears the foot pads
PLANTER The rear surface of the hind paw that bears the foot pads
LATERAL Towards the side
VENTROLATERAL The side of the belly area (ventral= belly & laterial=side)
SUPERIOR Above view (bird's eye view)
INFERIOR Below view
MIDLINE Middle of the body
LONGITUDINAL Length (parallel to the body axis)
TRANSVERSE Crosswise
SUPERFICIAL Nearest to the surface
DEEP Furtherest from the surface
SAGITTAL a longitudinal, dorsoventral, or ventrical plane (dividing the body into left and right)
FRONTAL A longitudinal, latromedial or horizontal plane (dividing the body into dorsal and ventral parts)
