Can study how people interact with one another, mimics ‘real-life’. Results may be more realistic or naturalistic than in an interview. Issues are debated & justified; new issues can be identified. Good for investigating how groups influence each other.

  11. 11Mixed MethodsIt involves the collection & analysis of both qualitative & quantitative data in response to research questions or hypotheses. The two forms of data are integrated in the design analysis.
  12. 12PragmatismAn approach that evaluates theories or beliefs in terms of the success of their practical application
  13. 13Convergent Parallel Research DesignCollects both quantitative & qualitative data, analyzes them separately, & then compares the results to see if the findings confirm or disconfirm each other
  14. 14Explanatory Sequential Research DesignAppeals to strong quantitative background & involves a two-phase project with the collection of quantitative data in the first phase, & qualitative data to help explain initial quantitative results
  15. 15Exploratory Sequential Research DesignStart with a qualitative phase first followed by a quantitative phase, for example the explanatory sequential approach, the second database builds on the results of the initial database.
