Flashcards
Atmospheric Circulation
Cards in this deck (3)
- 1How is the Hadley Cell formed? The warmth of the Earth's surface heats the air above it. The air becomes less dense and rises at the equator. As the air rises it cools and then sinks at 30° North and South because of the Coriolis effect.
- 2How is the Ferrel Cell formed?Cold air from the poles meets warm air from the tropics, causing the air to rise and creates this cell
- 3How is the Polar Cell formed? The cold, dense air sinks at the poles and moves towards the equator where it warm and rises at 60°. This air moves back towards the poles and sinks.
