- 1Interventions 1. Rewarm the affected area(s). Analgesics may be needed for pain. Avoid using dry heat, never rub or massage the part. Rewarm rapidly and continuously with a warm water bath or towels wit 40-42 Celsius to thaw. 2. Handle the affected area gently and immobilize. 3. Avoid compression of the injured tissues and apply only loose and non adherent sterile dressings 4. Monitor for signs of compartment syndrome 5. Tetanus prophylaxis is necessary and topical and systemic antibiotics may be prescribed 6. Debridement of necrotic tissue may be necessary; amputation may occur.Frostbite
