Cards in this deck (29)
- 1Denary to Hexbla

- 2What is a utility programSoftware designed to help analyse, configure, optimise and maintain a computer system.
- 3Encryption SoftwareScrambles data to prevent unauthorised access. Requries a key to decrypt.
- 4Disk DefragmentationRecorganise files so they are stored on contigous blocks of memory. Means faster file access and may free up space.
- 5CompressionReduces size of flies. Less disk space required. Infrequently accessed files.
- 6BackupsCopy of computer systems files and settings. Stored externally. Restore system in event of data loss.
- 7Full backupCopy every file on system. Require a lot of storage space. Take a long time to create. Full system restore is fairly quick.
- 8Incremental BackupCopy recently modified files only. Less storage space required. Quicker to create. Full system restore is very slow.
- 9EthernetStandard for connecting devices on a LAN. Uses a copper wire or fibre optic cable.
- 10MDR (Memory data register)A CPU register that holds the actual data and imstructioms being used.
- 11MAR(Memory address register)A CPU register that holds memory addresses for the data and instructions that the CPU needs.
- 12Program CounterHolds the memory address of the next CPU instruction.
- 13AccumulatorThe part of the ALU that stores the intermediate results when doing a calculation.
- 14Clock SpeedThe number of fetch decode execute cycles a CPU can perform per second. This is measured in hertz.
- 15CacheThe memory which stores instructions or data that is frequently used, previously used or next to be used. The bigger the size the more memory there is for instructions data which has been used or next.
- 16CoresThe number of independent processors in the CPU which run the fetch decode execute cycle simultaneously. More cores the more fetch decode execute cycle simultaneously.
- 17Data TypesInteger (Whole numbers)
Real (Decimal numbers)
Boolean (True and False)
Character (Single Character)
String (Characters) - 18IntegerWhole numbers. Positive or negative.
2 or 4 bytes. - 19BooleanStores two state values e.g true or false, yes or no and on or off.
Value 1 (True)
Value 0 (False) - 20RealUsed to store decimal numbers.
Positive or negative. Store Big numbers.
4 or 8 bytes. - 21Char(Character)Used to store a single character.
1 or 2 bytes. - 22StringUsed to store a collection of chars (characters). Any size.
Size dependent on number of chars stored. - 23Colour depthThe more bits you have the more colours you can represent the bigger the file size.
- 24ResolutionMeasures amount of detail in an image. Depends on the pixel density. Resolution depth of a screen image is usually measured in pixels per inch. The more PPI the larger the file size.
- 25AbstractionPicking out the important details.
Ignore irrelevant details. - 26Logic Gates

- 27Truth Tables (AND)

- 28Truth Tables (OR)

- 29Truth Tables (NOT)
