SERGIO GUTIERREZ Spring 2018 - Intro To Sacred Scriptures English 47 cards

Cards in this deck (47)

  1. 1Why did Israel want a King?Israelites want a king because they want to be like other nations, and were disappointed with the corruption of Samuel’s children
  2. 2King Saul's flawsSaul is always failing, he is jealous, tried to kill people (David), his major sin is that he is constantly sacrificing during battle himself; rather than wait for Samuel (a priest) to do it legally. God commands that the enemy is to be completely destroyed, but Saul takes prisoners and loots.
  3. 3David's key strengths (3)- Political : He makes Jerusalem the capital of Israel. There was no kingdom in Jerusalem until then.
-Liturgical: David is seen as a great liturgical reformer, for he has a great desire to build the temple. David wants God to have a house to dwell in. He also wants Jerusalem to be the center of worship.
    - Eschatological: David becomes a sign of the one to come. The one to come won’t just be a physical king, but a heavenly one. He also has the power to cast out demons. For that reason, Jesus was thought to descend from David because of the same ability.
  4. 4Davidic CovenenantHe is given kingship and name. God will make a house and great name.
