Flashcards
2.5 Translators
Cards in this deck (9)
- 1AssemblerIt translates assembly language code into machine code. Used for device drivers. Used when fast execution is required or limited memory/file size. Difficult to write in
- 2CompilersTranslate and execute source code all in one go into machine code. Optimize code. Used at the end of development (ready for shipping). Error reports created along with Object Code.
- 3InterpretersTranslate and execute source code. Line by line, statement by statement. Source code is checked for syntax - if correct, code is executed. If incorrect, interpreting is stopped
- 4IDEIntegrated Development Environment
Editor (for writing the code)
Error diagnostics (such as de-bug facilities)
Run-Time environment
Translators - 51st GenerationDirectly executable by the processor. Difficult to program in, hard to understand and hard to find errors in so it is hard to debug
- 62nd GenerationIts assembly code. Uses mnemonics. Slightly easier to program. One assembly language instruction translates one machine code instruction. Needs to be translated to machine code to be executed. It uses an assembler
- 73rd GenerationEasier to understand, find errors and de-bug. Uses english like keywords. One instruction code translates into many machine codes. Translated using complier and interpreter
- 84th GenerationKnown as a declarative language and rules are stated. Describes what computation should be performed and not how to perform it. Examples include:
SQL, Expert systems, artificial intelligence - 9Device DriversThey are loaded into memory by the Operating System and are used to control the operation of a hardware device. 2nd generation is mostly commonly used in device drivers.
