Cards in this deck (6)
- 1model of usefulness with six test qualitiespracticality, reliability, construct validity, interactiveness, authenticity, impact
- 2question to poseHow useful is this particular test for its intended purpose(s)?
- 3complementarity of different test qualitiestest developers need to find an appropriate balance among these qualities, this will vary from one testing situation to another
Usefulness= Reliability + Construct validity + Authenticity + Interactiveness + Impact + Practicality - 4usefulness in the development and use of language tests: three principlesPrinciple 1: It is the overall usefulness of the test that is to be maximized, rather than the individual qualities that affect usefulness.
Principle 2: The individual test qualities cannot be evaluated indepenently, but must be evaluated in terms of their combined effect on the overall usefulness of the test
Principle 3: Test usefullness an the appropriate balance among the different qualities cannot be prescribed in general, but msut be determined for each specific testing situation. - 5hencein order to be useful, any language test must be developed with a specific purpose, a particular group of test takerss and a specific language use domain (ie situation or context) in which the test taker will be using the language outside of the test itself (in mind).
- 6Test qualitiesprimary purpose of test: is to measure
we thus need to consider the authenicity of a particular language smaple, the interactiveness of a particular leaning task, the impat of a given learning acitivity, or the pracitcality of a particular teaching approach for a given situation
reliability and validity are essential measurement qualities becuase they're the basis of making judgements, ..
