Cards in this deck (23)
- 1What is 6F (Hex) as a decimal?6=6
F=15
6+15=21 - 2What is Iteration?The repetition of a process
1 repetition = 1 iteration - 3What is Lossy and Lossless?Types of data compression
- 4What is the difference between lossy and losslessLossy compresses by getting rid of some information, mostly redundant information. Not all information is recovered
Lossless doesn't therefore retaining all original data - 5True or False? The correct order of byte units is: Bit Nibble Byte Kilobyte Megabyte Gigabyte Exabyte Terabyte Petabyte Zettabyte YottabyteFalse, it is:
Bit
Nibble
Byte
Kilobyte
Megabyte
Gigabyte
Terabyte
Petabyte
Exabyte
Zettabyte
Yottabyte - 6What Logic Gate is this?And

- 7What Logic Gate is this?Or

- 8What is ASCII?ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is the most common format for text files in computers and on the Internet. In an ASCII file, each character is represented with a 7-bit binary number. 128 possible characters are defined.
- 9Define: Computer ProgramA list of instructions that tells the computer what to do
- 10Explain what a LAN isA Local Area Network is a single network that covers a small area e.g. a building
The LAN is normally created by and for a single business - 11What is an entity?A real world object that a record in a database is about
- 12What is a database?An organised collection of information
- 13What is a Presence Check?A validation check that makes sure that a certain character/symbol is present e.g. an @ in an email
- 14What is a simple static query?A single query statement that cannot change
- 15What is a disadvantage of Proofreading verification check? It is time consuming
It can cost lots in wages - 16What is a field?A small piece of information in a database
- 17If a row is a record, then what is a column? An attribute (a characteristic in the table)

- 18What does DBMS stand for?Database Management System
- 19What network topology is this?Bus

- 20Name 1 advantage and disadvantage of a Bus NetworkAdvantages: Easy to install,
Easy to add extra workstations,
Uses less cable than a Star network,
Best choice for temporary networks
Disadvantages: Faulty central cable means the entire network stops working,
Lot of workstations means data may travel slowly,
Data collisions can happen as the network becomes busy,
Every workstation can see all of the data in the network (low security),
Cable length dictates the maximum number of workstations - 21What is this topology?A Star Topology

- 22Name 1 advantage and disadvantage of a Star NetworkAdvantages: Very reliable,
One failed connection doesn't affect other users,
Very few data collisions occur as each workstation has its own cable to the server,
No workstation can interact with another without going through the server (good security)
Disadvantages: Most expensive topology becuas install because of the amount of cables needed,
Installation usually needs experts to set it up,
Extra hardware ay be needed e.g. hubs,
If the server stops working, nobody can access their files or use the network - 23What is a data collision?2 data packets being sent at exactly the same time is called a data collision
