Flashcards
development of cortex
Cards in this deck (7)
- 1How does the neural tube go from 1 cell thick to multiple layers?Cells divide by nuclear translocation
- 2Nuclear translocationCell body physically moves up and down through the tube as it goes through the cell cycle. BUT only through the ventricular zone and intermediate zone (mantle layer) and NOT to the marginal zone. Division increases after open ends of the NT closes
- 3Neural migration developmental abnormalitiesLissencephaly- smooth brain caused by migration abnormalities- improper neural migration during 12-24th week of gestation. can be caused by viral infections during 1st trimester or insufficient blood supply to brain. Also, genetic causes.
- 41st stage of cortical developmentPost mitotic cells move from ventricular zone to form preplate.
- 52nd stage cortical developmentlarge accumulation of post mitotic neurons within the preplate to form the cortical plate which results in an increase in cortical thickness.
- 6What does the cortical plate do to the subplateDivides it into the superficial marginal zone( composed mainly of the cajal retzius cells), and the intermediate zone (composed mainly of the subplate cells and increasing numbers of incoming axons).
- 7what is the preplatea more superficial marginal zone containing a group of large, stellate-shaped cells known as Cajal-Retzius cells. deeper zone cells are called subplate cells
