Flashcards
Lab 3 CT Projections

Cards in this deck (22)
- 1—White Adipocytes/ fat
Unilocular adipose tissue
Locations: Under the skin, around kidneys, w/in abdomen, in breasts
Functions:
1. Heat Insulation
2.Mechanical Cushioning
3. Energy Source
- 2—Brown Adipocytes/ Fat
Multilocular Adipose Tissue
Locations: Present during embryonic and juvenile pds.,
Function: Thermoregulatory by a mitochondrial decoupling protein
- 3—Dense Irregular CT
Locations: Dermis of skin, walls of tubular organs (alimentary canal, glandular tissue, and organ capsules)
Fx: High collagenous fibers--> Strength (skin resistant of tearing)
Forms part of submucosa of DI tract, fibrous capsules of joints & some types of fascia
- 4—Dense Irregular- Aorta
High conc. of elastic fibers
Location: wall of arteries
Fx: Maintains pulsatile blood flow through arteries
- 5—Dense Regular CT- Tendons & Ligaments
Location: Bet. collagen fibers are rows of fibroblasts
Fx: Forms strong, rope-like structures
Tendons --> skeletal muscle + bone
Ligament--> bone+bone (@joints)
- 6—Loose Areolar CT
Location: Distributed under epithelia of body, in/around mucous membranes, blood vessels, nerves
Fx: Hold organs in place & attaches epithelial tissue to other tissues
- 7—Loose CT- Sm. Instes. Lamina Propia
Fx:
May include: fibroblasts, lymphocytes, plasma cells, macrophages, eosinophilicleukocytes and mast cells
Provide support and nutrition to epithelium, and resources to bind to underlying tissue
- 8—Regular CT- Type III collagen (network)
Stainable w/ silver stains
Location: Spleen, Lymph nodes, & lymph nodules
Fx: Formation of structural and
- 9—Reticular CT- Type III collagen (networks)
Argyrophilic (stainable w/ silver stains)
Location: Spleen, Lymph nodes, and lymph nodules, adipose tissue
Fx: Formation of structural and organizational framework in organs
- 10Kleoid FormationOverabundance of collagen fiber during healing process = elevated scars called keloid
Collagen fibers are more eosinophilic (glassy appearance) - 11ScurvyDeficiency of vit. C
Symptoms: bleeding gums and loose teeth
Vit C necessary for hydroxylation of proline for proper collagen formation - 12Marfan's SyndromeGenetic defect on chro. 15 codes for fibrillin
Undeveloped elastic fibers and predisposed to rupture of aorta
Display cystic medial degeneration:
Reduction of membranes and smooth muscle - 13EdemaExcess accumulation of extracellular fluid and gross swelling
- 14ObesityTwo types-
Hypertrophic:
Adipose cells increase size
Hyperplastic:
Increase number of adipose tissues due to overfeeding - 15Systemic Lupus ErythematosusAutoimmune CT disease
Inflammation of connective tissue in certain organs as well as in tendons and joints
May resemble to arthritis, epilepsy, and psychological diseases - 16Extracellular matrix is formed byfibers, amorphous ground substance, and extracellular fluid
- 17Name 3 types of fibersCollagen
Reticular
Elastic - 18Most abundant fibers composed of protein tropocollagen, alpha chains w/ glycine, hydrogen bonds of hydroxyproline, and hydroxylysineCollagen
- 19Composed of type III collagen forms delicate networks around smooth mus., certain epithelia cells, adipocytes, Form structural framework for organs such as spleen Stainable w/ silver stainReticular
- 20Composed of an amorphous protein, elastin (desmosine crosslinks), surrounded by a microfibrillar component (consisting of fibrillin)Elastic
- 21Fx: Gel- like matrix in which the fibers and cells are embedded and through which extracellular fluid diffuses. Composed: glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) proteoglycans glycoproteinsAmorphous Ground
Substance - 22Fx: Fluid component of blood, similar to plasma, that percolates throughout the ground substance, carrying nutrients, oxygen, signaling molecules, and other blood-borne materials to and car- bon dioxide and waste products from cells.Extracellular Matrix Fluid
