Topic 10 ICT spreadsheets
Cards in this deck (27)
- 1Spread sheet applicationA spread sheet application such as Excel can store all its data in a single file (with an .xls extension). This file is called a 'workbook'.
- 2What is a workbook?A workbook is made up of one or more 'worksheets'. A worksheet is a single tab in a spread sheet workbook.
- 3Cell referenceAlways starts with a letter and ends with a number e.g. A5 or H28, addressing a specific cell (.g. the cell C7 has the price of tickets.)
- 4Range of cellsA range of cells is a set of cells in a column or row
- 5What can data entered into cells be?Data entered into cells can be different data types e.g. text, number, currency, date, percentage etc.
- 6What can each cell contain?Labels
Data
Formula and function - 7What are labels?any text in a cell describing the data in a row or column(titles, headings that identify data)
- 8What is data in a cell?Any values (text or numbers) describing the data in a row or column, (titles headings that identify data)
- 9What are formulas and functions?Mathematical calculations carried out automatically. (you can use formulas such as SUM=C1-D1 to calculate sums efficiently)
- 10Formulas must start with what symbol? 1) £ 2) * 3) =Formulas must start with an equals (=) sign
- 11What do formulas perform calculations on?Formulas perform calculations on cell contents
- 12Where do formulas appear? In the formula bar
- 13When data on a spread sheet changes, what happens to the formula? The result of a formula is automatically recalculated, when data on a spread sheet changes
- 14Give an example of a formula =(B3*C6)+E12
- 15The four main mathematical operations are: + Add
- Subtract
* Multiply
/ Divide - 16Functions must start with what symbol? 1) $ 2) = 3) !Functions must start with an equals sign (=) like formulas.
- 17Functions are part of spread sheet software True or False?TRUE
- 18What are functions?Functions are specialised calculations built in to the spread sheet software
- 19The content of a cell can't be formatted True or False?FALSE
The content of a cell CAN be formatted - 20Multiple cells can be.....merged into one cell
- 21Cells are often formatted to.......reflect the data that is held in them. Data types include:
Currency, number, real, integer, (whole number), date, text. - 22What happens when you position the mouse pointer on the bottom right hang corner of a cell (and drag down or across) ?The spread sheet tries to respond intelligently. If there is a formula in the cell, the spread sheet tries to adjust as it goes down the page to fit in with the new position and the cells being referred to.
- 23Using charts and graphs allows us to......notice patterns and trends more easily.
- 24TRUE OR FALSE? Specific data can be selected and a chart/ graph can be created with this data.TRUE
some charts that can be created are:
Bar charts - to compare values
Pie charts - to show how a title is divided among a number of different categories
Line graph - display trends - 25When a formula is copied by ‘filling down’ the cell references......cell references are adjusted as you drag the pointer down the page
- 26Relative cell references: If a formula is copied by filling down, the cell references are adjusted as you drag the replication pointer down the page. Why?This is because the spread sheet uses the relative address of the cells based on their position in the worksheet.
- 27Relative cell referencing is when....a cell is used in a formula and the formula is copied into a new cell reference (the address), the cell references (cell addresses) change to take account of the formula's new position.
